AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'

THE TONY AWARD®-WINNING FATS WALLER MUSICAL SHOW STARRING JACKIE RICHARDSON

Directed and choreographed by Marion J. Caffey
Musical Direction by William Foster McDaniel

Toronto, ON… Artistic Producer Martin Bragg announced today that CanStage and Dancap Private Equity Inc. will present the CanStage production of Ain't Misbehavin', starring the stunning Jackie Richardson, for a full twelve-week run, from March 31 to June 25, 2005. This is the same producing team which brought the Canadian premiere of Urinetown: The Musical to Toronto in 2004.

The joint is jumpin' - again! - Jackie Richardson, our 'Honeysuckle Rose,' returns and delivers. Fats Waller's upbeat 30s musical revue will 'keep you outta mischief' and jazzed all night long! Ain't Misbehavin' pays joyous tribute to the talents of the legendary Fats Waller. From sassy to sultry, this electrifying celebration of song and dance features such hits as "The Joint is Jumpin'," "Honeysuckle Rose," "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," and "T'Ain't Nobody's Biz-ness If I Do." Experience the heart and soul of 20s and 30s Harlem where the onset of swing joined ranks with the rhythms of ragtime and the passions of jazz, creating an explosive musical movement. The show won 4 Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway.

"I am so excited that CanStage will be presenting Jackie Richardson in this fabulous show and that we will have twelve weeks for Toronto audiences to fall in love with the music of Fats Waller and the powerhouse performer that is Jackie Richardson," says CanStage's Artistic Producer Martin Bragg.

Directed and choreographed by Marion J. Caffey (CanStage's Cookin' at the Cookery), the cast is led by last year's Dora Award-winning actress and singer Jackie Richardson (CanStage's Cookin' at the Cookery), Divine Brown as Armelia, Starr Domingue as Charlaine, Doug Eskew as Ken, David Lopez as Andre, Charles Azulay and Michelle White.

Joining Marion J. Caffey is a creative team that includes musical director William Foster McDaniel, set and lighting designer Phillip Silver (CanStage's Proof), costume designer Phillip Clarkson, sound designer John Lott, stage manager Nancy Dryden (CanStage's Take Me Out) and assistant stage manager Janet Gregor (CanStage's Take Me Out).

A strong supporter of CanStage, Aubrey Dan, President and sole owner of Dancap Private Equity Inc. (www.dancap.ca), is a seasoned businessman with his roots in the generic pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Dan, a long time patron of the theatre, has become increasingly aware of the need for more variety in Toronto's Broadway theatrical productions. Following on the success of last summer's Urinetown: The Musical, Mr. Dan is thrilled to be partnering with CanStage once again to bring exciting, Tony Award-winning theatre to Toronto.

"I felt that Urinetown: The Musical was such an exciting project last summer and one that brought great theatre to Toronto," says Dan. "So when the opportunity to team up with CanStage and the incomparable Jackie Richardson was presented I jumped at the chance to become a producing partner once again."

Ain't Misbehavin' was conceived and originally directed by Richard Maltby, Jr. It was based on an idea by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby Jr. It was originally choreographed by Arthur Faria, orchestrations and arrangements by Luther Henderson, vocal music and concepts by Jeffrey Gutcheon, musical arrangements by Jeffrey Gutcheon and William Elliott.
